Helping Kids in Dire Straits stay warm this winter!

The annual K.i.D.S Blanket Run of the Harley Owners Group® is a heartwarming example of the hands-on charity projects regularly undertaken by H.O.G. Chapters.

It all started with a group of Johannesburg Chapter members over 10 years ago. Rather than passively discussing the bitterly cold Highveld winter, they motivated members to get together some blankets and went onto the inner city streets of Johannesburg and delivered them to the people who needed them the most. People – and especially children – living on the streets in the cold.

It has grown into a popular event for ALL bikers and is supported by every H.O.G.® Chapter as well as many motorcycle clubs and biking enthusiasts.

Blanket Run recipients in Gauteng

Just over 1400 blankets were donated to or purchased by H.O.G. Johannesburg out of proceeds from Gauteng. Thank you to all who sponsored blankets or donated money and attended a great ride and day out.

Blankets were redistributed to our main sponsors, Round Table and Mix FM, for distribution to their charities.

We also provided blankets for distribution to our sister Chapters, H.O.G. Pretoria, H.O.G. Clearwater and HOG Gold Rand as well as the biking clubs who took part in the Blanket Run –  Free Chapter East Rand, Crusaders MC, and Zambezi MCC.

The Johannesburg chapter has already distributed blankets to:

  • Johannesburg Disaster Management
  • Machama Primary School
  • SAPS Child Protection Unit
  • Olivers House
  • AMCARE
  • New Beginnings Foundation
  • Mama Africa
  • Hope Home for Girls
  • Emmers Vol Liefde
  • Charity Begins with Me
  • SPCA Randburg
  • Acorn Foundation
  • Avril Elizabeth Home
  • Baby Moses
  • Soldiers for Jesus.

Blankets will also accompany the Blister Butt riders in July for distribution far and wide. Thanks guys and gals, in anticipation of a great job done in the cold of the Blister Butt ride!

Due to the K.i.D.S. Run being held quite late into winter this year, the decision was made to get these blankets distributed to the various charities as soon as possible.

Two outrides are planned to drop off the remaining blankets at four of Joburg H.O.G.’s other charities. Due to previously scheduled events and the different charity’s availability, the rides will be taking place on weekdays.
